In this virtual field trip, you will learn a bit about a Louisiana freshwater swamp, a unique habitat, and some of the animals that call the swamp their home.  Then, you will be the realtor!

But, before we begin, let's answer...

What is a swamp?

A swamp is a type of wetland that has relatively deep areas of water and contains woody plants.  Because the swamp is a specialized and rare ecosystem worldwide, it is home to many interesting and unusual varieties of plant and animal life, many of which have adapted to the environment.

Are there different types of swamps?

There are actually two types of swamps: forested swamps and shrub swamps.  Forested swamps contain many types of tall trees, including Louisiana's state tree, the Bald Cypress.  The shrub swamp is covered in woody bushes and very few trees.  This tour highlights a freshwater, forested swamp.

So if you are ready, let's start exploring the animals that live there and the materials needed to call it home!
